The BIHER Library was established in the year 1984 with three main branches of Engineering such as Civil, Mechanical and Computer Science Engineering. Gradually it has grown up in all dimensions in terms of collections and services. The library caters to the needs of the faculty, Students and Research Scholars. Books related to these disciplines were added to this library initially. Bharath University Library has a seating capacity of Six Hundred.
The library caters to both traditional and IT based services to the user community in hybrid method. The library has different divisions carrying out various library professional activities.
The major collection of the library is housed in various racks according to the subjects. The stack area consists of books on all branches of engineering and technology. In this section books are permitted to users for borrowing purpose. The total no of documents includes books, journals, back volumes comprise a total of 1,81,936 documents. We follow open access to users.
It includes Encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, data books, tables and some rare books are kept in this section for reference. More than 2500 such documents are available in this division.
Prescribed text books on all disciplines of engineering and technology, numbering about 58224 have been purchased and kept only for reference
This division deals with enrolment of the students , teaching faculty, and non – teaching staff, research scholars, etc., as members of the library. The section performs the responsibility of book issue, return , and issuing of no due certificate to its members. The books are issued using the barcode scanner. The Bharath University library has automated with the Autolib library management software for the value keeping functions of the library. Every document in the library bears a bar code tag which is used for issue and return purpose of the documents.
National and international journals are subscribed to the library. The journal articles are indexed and catalogued in subject wise from the year 1984 onwards. Apart from the peer reviewed journals we subscribe magazines, carrier oriented journals, along with popular newspapers for our users. Back volumes numbering around 1938 are kept for reference in this division
This cell is having a collection of books on objective type for all engineering disciplines like GRE, TOFEL, GMAT, TNPSC, GATE , IELTS, CAT, Civil Service Examinations, UPSC, Technical Communication and carrier oriented books. In addition to this, the cell also stacks books on question banks and general knowledge.
About 3610 books related to different disciplines of engineering and technology are available subject wise for the use of the SC/ST students funded by the SC/ST welfare department (Central Government). The books are issued only to the SC/ST Students and they are permitted to keep be books till the end of the semester.
A separate division is functioning with 50 computer systems for students and faculty members for the purpose of harnessing e – resources like e – journals and e – books. The average no of such users per month is 960. The Wi – Fi connectivity and intranet facility are provided to the users.
The library is automated with a library software known as “AUTOLIB”, which functions with a server and 4 nodes. The databases of books and journals contain around 1,79,336 records.

The audio visual room caters to 50 users with educational CD’s, Audio Cassettes and NPTEL Videos. The students are encouraged to make use of this facility whenever they are free.
